Posted by Wayak on Feb 7, 2019 1:46:01 PM

Chiapas is one of our favorite destinations in Mexico, and that’s why we are going to give you the best tips for you to learn the basics of this incredible place.

First of all, here’s some basic information to visit Chiapas. The most likely is you get to Tuxtla Gutierrez first, and the cheapest way is to get there by bus. You can check Wayak’s bus tickets as an option to get your tickets in advance and check more in this post of how to get bus tickets in Mexico.

Our recommendation is to have your accommodation in San Cristobal de las Casas, because it is a central point near to all the places we will talk about, besides, it es a very cheap place to eat and sleep. If you like to live adventures at the best price, all the tours in Wayak, offers round transportation to full day tours.

Well, let’s get started with the itinerary.

When you arrive to San Cristobal on day 1, take the rest of the day to relax and take a city walk to visit the markets and buy some handcrafts

Day 2, Lagos de Montebello.

All the tours, including Lagos de Montebello and Chiflon, starts in the early morning, we pick you up at 8:00am and end around 19:00pm.

We start by visiting the Chiflón waterfalls or Bride’s veil, we will have to walk a little across a river to get to the amazing waterfall, but we are sure that walk is worth the view.

Continuing with the tour, you will visit some lakes of the 50 that conform the Montebello Lakes, you can take a small boat to sail over the lake.

Day 3. Cañon del Sumidero.

We will pick you up around 8:00am, the tour starts with a boat ride that is 2-3 hours long… believe me, the greatness of the cliffs will amaze you. The sightseeing of crocodiles is very normal in the zone, so, be aware!

After the boat ride, we will take you to Chiapa de Corzo, a beautiful colonial city with a lot of monuments to take pictures.

Day 4. Tour to Misol-ha, Agua Azul y Palenque.

This tour is the longest of them all, we pick you up around 6:00am because it is a long road to get to the places. We recommend to take a pill for dizziness.

The first stop is Cascadas de Agua Azul, this is the most famous place besides Cañon del Sumidero in Chiapas. You can take a swim in its beautiful waters. Ten, we go to Misol Ha Waterfall, it is possible to walk through this 98ft waterfall.

Then, it is time to go to the archaeological site of Palenque.  This mayan ruins are a very important archaeological site for the mayan culture, you will have about two hours to walk it with our guide.

If you are planning on staying at Chiapas more days, don't hesitate to check out our other tours! Live an experience with Wayak!
